Turn It Off Studios
Music Production by Robert Keyes
Turn It Off Studios was originally established by Robert Keyes in the year 2000. Over the next 12 years it would be key to the production and release of many musical projects that may not have seen a professional release otherwise. In 2012 Robert Keyes decided to stop taking new clients and instead focused on his own music education.
Over the next decade, Turn It Off Studios produced several music projects, most releases being the responsibility of the artists themselves once the mixes were completed. During this time Robert cut his teeth as a live sound engineer (at one time working for 3 different production companies and Western Oregon University) and started a piano service business that he still operates today. He also teaches weekly piano lessons in 2 cities in western Oregon.
Robert also travels to other studios to assist with technical support, provide training, and is even the engineer and coproducer on several projects that don't bear the "Turn It Off Studios" name. In 2022 Robert released some experiments and singles under his new pseudonym "Mr. Keyes".
Robert is constantly working to improve his musical abilities and technical skills making every project better than the project that preceded it.
Thank you for visiting my website. At the start of the covid pandemic I was working with a folk group at a studio in Keizer, OR. During lockdown, I invested in software that allows for remote recording. We recorded over the internet in real time communicating with webcams and talkback mic. It was revolutionary! I am now using the same system to work with artists no matter how far away they may be. It's an exciting time as again the brand Turn It Off Studios is reborn! New releases are coming soon!

As a musician myself, I understand how important your work is to you. Becoming a success in music isn’t the easiest of pursuits. Nevertheless, many of us spend our entire lives trying. Most of us couldn’t conceive of a life without music. Some of us dream of becoming stars, others just want a successful career involved with music, and others just want to play or sing. Regardless of your end goal, I understand. Music has been a passion for me as early as I can remember. I’ve been a musician all my life. You’re on friendly ground here.
You want your studio experience to be an enjoyable one and you want a project you can be proud of. This is what “Turn It Off Studios” is all about. I understand your needs and will work hard to make your vision a reality, and to make sure you have fun in the process.
1998 Is when I really started getting involved with home recording. I invested in a 4-track tape machine, several FX units, a drum machine, a few mics, and a few guitars. I would write, record, and rehearse my songs sometimes until the late hours of the night resulting in numerous noise complaints and police visits telling me to turn it off. When filing my first copyright, I chose the name Turn It Off Studios as a "label" (and a bit of a joke) not knowing that in a few short years I would be launching a business recording and producing music. Special Thanks to my lifelong friend and artist Andy Mabra for hand drawing my vision for a logo (that somewhat resembles that special neighbor who inspired the name) and the edgy symbol many have come to embrace.
